Teaching Philosophy
The arts are a powerful tool that help me to think critically about the world, speak out about what I believe in, and build community.
I'm passionate about arts integration, and I've had some wonderful opportunities to share that with a wide range of students. I've been teaching art since 2008 in museums, public schools, independent schools, and beyond. I am committed to dismantling systems of oppression through my art and teaching. In an effort towards this I seek to center marginalized voices in my curriculum with a focus on contemporary artists who identify as QTPoC.

“The Water Based Media workshop made art more accessible for me and helped me to ‘see’ objects for painting.”
“Alma brought so much positive energy, enthusiasm and openness to class and created a safe space for learning, sharing and making art! It was a real pleasure!”
“Alma is warm, thoughtful, & knowledgeable.”
“The instructor was very kind and knowledgeable and really made us all feel welcome and free to express any of our insecurities about drawing without feeling judged. I also feel like the course gives a really good foundation. I feel like now that it was over, I have a lot of things identified to practice and improve on.”
